Ellen Doty is a soulful singer-songwriter with a world-class voice. Her background in traditional jazz continues to influence her work, drawing from a number of genres while staying true to herself. A born storyteller, Ellen’s intimate and personal lyrics shine through her stunning vocals.
Born and raised in southern Alberta, she currently lives in Edmonton and represents Canada on the world stage, from performing at Tokyo Jazz Festival to opening for Grammy award winning artists Gregory Porter and Lisa Fischer.
Her 2018 album “Come Fall”, was released through Toronto label Alma Records and Universal Music in Canada and debuted at #1 on the iTunes Jazz chart. It was also released on Inpartmaint Records in Japan. Since its release, it has racked up 1.5 million listens on Spotify and found an audience across the world in Japan and South Korea. She was named a Top 35 under 35 Jazz Musician by the CBC.
Beatroute Mag says, “By pushing her artistic boundaries and refusing to be placed in a box, Doty achieved musical brilliance that sets her apart from her peers. Doty’s sophomore album clearly proves her voice knows no limits. But it is perhaps her modesty and the purity of her intent to create good music that continues to define her as a blossoming Canadian artist.”
Fans of Ellen’s music know that listening to her records is like being in a room with her while she’s singing just for you: her voice is just that good. Ellen doesn’t need gimmicks, she just needs you to listen.
