b. Austria. Singing since childhood, Wright has established a considerable following in and around Vienna. She has also toured throughout Austria, sometimes working with local musicians such as pianist-composer-arranger Erwin Schmidt and guitarist Christian Havel. She has also worked with Rolf Ericson and Ed Thigpen, both of whom appeared on 1994’s A World Of My Own. Wright’s singing style is sleekly professional and she builds her repertoire from an intriguing blend of standards, jazz pieces by Duke Ellington, Dave Brubeck and others, compositions by her regular associates and a sprinkling of songs for which she herself has written either the music, the lyrics, or both.
