ELPASO is named after its hometown that saw its musical career start. The band, formed by Chicano, Mexican and American members, started playing in 1985, and its short and unfortunate biography comes to an end in 1990, just when they had finished recording their first album.
Although they get together in 1985, ELPASO musicians (the band) had grown up as big punk-rock fans in the small, family-hardcore-punk scene of their city. El Paso (the city) is one of many US small cities where the flourishing underground scene was forged. ELPASO members grow up in the small and family-like hardcore-punk scene of their city that, like other local factories, allow an American underground network to be born. The first influences come from punk pioneers such as The Plugz or Teenage Popeye, who shared the stage with The Ramones. New wave bands like One Second Zero / The Victims and hardcore bands such as Red Zone or, especially, the Rhythm Pigs also appear at that time. The members of ELPASO are also shaped and inspired by groups like Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, Minutemen, Hickoids or Meat Puppets.
