There is more to Elsa Martinsson than meets the eye. Though an unassuming 23-year-old from the small Swedish town of Hallstavik, the petite powerhouse behind Elsa possesses an undeniable confidence that is brimming just beneath the surface. This swagger is one that Elsa unleashes upon listeners through her own strain of soaring, empowering pop and her larger-than life voice.

Yet much like the Swedish ethos of lagom, meaning “not too much, not too little,” Elsa strikes a similar balance in her songs by pairing anthemic hooks and melodies with an underlying warmth and tenderness to produce a sound that is bold yet delicate. This approach to her music ultimately stems from Elsa’s own deep-seated desire and relentless pursuit to write personal, thoughtful pop that captures who she is. However, for many years, Elsa had no such interest. As a stubborn teen set on becoming a recording artist, it was actually her father who first encouraged her to apply to and later attend a prestigious songwriting program in northern Sweden. Here Elsa dove headfirst into learning the craft after quickly realizing that she needed to believe the words she’d be singing on stage one day. At this school Elsa also befriended the writers and producers who eventually worked with her to create her debut EP.

Elsa is set to release her debut EP later in 2019.
