“Green” is a collection of songs written in the name of first heartbreak, love lost, and the desperation of discovering how to unbreak your own heart after someone forgot to be delicate with it. It’s the unraveling of love right before your eyes and the dark realization that you can only love this fully once. An understanding that the innocence of childhood before you gave love a chance, can never be reinstated for as long as you live. And that there’s beauty and pain within that truth. To me, “Green” is a green light - jumping too quickly into love, it’s the fresh lush grass when things are good and the weeds in the garden when things are not. It’s the tree I used to cry under at the park, and the petals I used to pluck hoping he would come back. It’s the newness of being young and in love and risking it all to feel everything and then nothing at all. And it’s the itch of poison ivy, no matter how hard you try to scrub it out. The ache in your heart that finds a permanent corner. Green is not just a color to me anymore. It’s a feeling. And it has become this album. I hope it meets you in the quiet moments of your heartbreak and makes you feel as understood as humanly possible. These songs are my story, but I hope you can find your story in them too. Heartbreak is universal, and so is “Green.”
p.s. “Green(er)” the deluxe album is a little more heartbreak for your soul, because one shade of Green didn’t feel like quite enough <3
