Growing up between Michigan and his native France, Emmanuel Dubelman's songwriting was influenced by rock music from both continents. His passion for music led him to explore the sounds of the 60s, 70s and 80s. He developed a particular fondness for New wave and the New Romantics movement.
Since the turn of the millenium, his encounters with French rock poets have had a profound effect on him and helped to refine his unique style of carefully crafted, metaphorical lyrics.
Living in Montreal since 2009, his musical career took a decisive turn with the release of his debut single, J'pense Sahel, a song that stayed with him for a long time before coming to public attention.
Released in January 2024, this melodious folk-rock ballad with symphonic pop arrangements is a collaboration between Emmanuel Dubelman, Catherine Laurin and Paul Zakarivan. It was produced by Zachari Smith (Halifax).
