Lungisani Promethius Njapha, widely celebrated as Emza, is a multi-talented, award-winning artist blazing trails in the South African music industry. Born and raised in Malukazi, a settlement outside Umlazi Township in Durban, Emza’s journey is a testament to resilience and raw talent.
Emza’s artistic career began as a dancer in high school, performing in local clubs and competitions. Inspired by local legend Mgarimbe (Sister Bettina), he transitioned to music, discovering his gift for creating captivating sounds. Initially a rapper, he later embraced Durban Kwaito—a blend of Kwaito and House music.
His big break came when he signed with Blaqk Records, releasing his debut album Nswelaboya with hits like Weekend and Take You to Durban. Over the years, Emza made waves with tracks like iNtokazi and Ntombazane. His chart-topping features include Ayepyep by DJ Sumbody, DJ Tira, and Thebe, alongside tracks like Phezukwesoso with DJ Tira.
Now signed to Proper Files under the legendary Professor, Emza is entering a new chapter with his current single Sgubhu Solova. Representing iKasi with pride, Emza’s music embodies the vibrant soul of South Africa.
