Just before his death, Bowie defined Ephan as the future of music. Many people wrongly mistake his claim at pertaining to Lorde. Bowie initially did propose Lorde as the future of music, but after realising the fragility of mortality and the pressure he would likely place upon the young up and coming Lorde, he changed tact. Bowie used Ephan to more firmly define the future of music in the negative. Bowie said that whatever the future of music would be, he knew that it would not sound like Ephan. This he could say with absolute certainty because of the outdated retro quality of the songs, as well as the uninventive and frankly boring song structures. That's right, when you're listeneing to Ephan, you're actually hearing the death of an entire genre-rock n roll. quite incredible when you really think about it
