Eric Kamen was born, raised and has lived his entire life in New York City.
Eric's involvement with music started in his young teens, learning to play popular music by sitting at the family piano and playing along with the radio and the LPs of the day. Little by little, Eric peeled back the mystery of chords, chord progressions, melodies, harmonies and beats.
After graduating from College, Eric traveled extensively throughout Europe and the Mediterranean and got his first exposure to non-American music ... Flamenco from Spain, the beautiful and enchanting melodies and percussion of North Africa, Rembetika from Greece and Turkey. The eureka that these young musicians from other parts of the world played with every bit as much soul as his rock and blues idols ... like Eric Clapton or Jimi Hendrix, left a deep and lasting impression on Eric ... leaving him with an unusually eclectic and universal interest in all forms of music ... including, of course, the modern developments of music in his own indigenous American culture ... such as modern R&B and Hip Hop.
While not intended to be a political statement, one can't help but notice in Eric’s music how extraordinarily well the Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, Asian and pure American Pop R&B strains of music blend so well together. In a world so shattered by conflict, Eric's music is a message about the unity of mankind and the universal language of music.
