Since her performance in Montreal at The First People's Festival in 2015, Esther Pennell has been on a path of musical self-discovery. She has graced the stages in Montreal every year since then.
Being a part of the first International Indigenous Music Summit in February 2019 and sharing the stage with Leela Gilday at the First People's Festival 2019 in Montreal were the highlights of the year for Esther.
Her folk bluegrass vibe, and a voice that has often been called haunting and clear, Esther has been entertaining her fans all over Quebec and Northern Ontario for the last 5 years.
As a songwriter, Esther’s life experiences are the catalyst for her songs about feminine resilience, heartache and joy. Staying grounded through her spiritual connection with the natural world and drawing inspiration from her east coast Mi’kmaq heritage.
Esther’s unique style on the 5-string banjo makes her an innovator and a fresh presence in the world of folk music.
Songs of strength, love and connection to heritage are Esther's gift to all of us.
Recently Esther has changed her name to connect to her ancestral energy, this name is Esther J Willow.
