Evie Bamford is a guitarist, clarinettist, vocalist and songwriter from Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) in Aotearoa (NZ). Her indie-rock project blends her background in jazz and classical music, using intentional instrumentation and intricate harmonic changes to create an introspective and uplifting sound.
Recorded live on a farm in Matakana by engineer Ally Doe and self-produced by Evie, ‘Money Bag’ is Evie’s debut single. Mixed by Tom Broome, mastered by Josh Llewellyn (Downbeat Mastering), and featuring Rory Johns (keys, synth), Hugo Butler (bass), Jeremy Richardson (drums), James MacEwan (trumpet, vocals), and Evie’s own guitar and vocals, ‘Money Bag’ is a jazz-centric indie rock track that takes aim at the harsh realities of career pressure, capitalism, and the 40-hour work week that many 20-somethings face – especially in Aotearoa’s unforgiving cost of living and unemployability climate.
If you’re a fan of Faye Webster, Alice Phoebe Lou or Ullah, Evie Bamford’s warm sound is one to watch.
