Formed in 2007 and forged in the sweaty pits of Johannesburg, Facing The Gallows blends metalcore and hardcore with just the right amount of chaos and breakdowns. Known for setting stages (and sometimes drum kits) on fire, they’ve built a reputation as one of South Africa’s hardest-working and loudest bands.
The current lineup features Reegan du Buisson on vocals, Chase Beynon and James Irving on guitars, Rayner Abraham on bass, and Aiden Harmse Foyster on drums (he’s new, but we like him). After a short hiatus in 2024 to catch their breath (and probably lose it again in the mosh pit), the band is back, independent, recharged, and meaner than ever.
Their discography is a timeline of grit and growth: the raw punk energy of This Is Hate City (2012), the emotional weight and sonic maturity of Chapters (2015), the crushing Dead Mindset (2018), and the genre-pushing MMXX EP (2020), which had fans and critics alike wondering how the hell this much noise came from five people.
On the live front, Facing The Gallows has racked up an impressive CV, sharing stages with August Burns Red, Fit For A King, Miss May I, Protest The Hero, Unearth, Secrets, Norma Jean, and even the one and only Attila (yes, that happened). Oh, and they won the Wacken Metal Battle South Africa and went full beast mode at Wacken Open Air in Germany.
Armed with a new batch of singles and a full-length on the horizon, the mission remains the same: push heavy music forward in South Africa,
