Family Vision Care are a quirkily named duo based in Cologne, Germany. Perhaps the only group heavily influenced by British rock icon Paul Weller to take their inspiration solely from Weller's often derided '80s soul-pop duo the Style Council (as opposed to the mod punk of the Jam or the R&B and freakbeat blend of his solo career), Family Vision Care aim for a similar blend of classic soul, vintage cool jazz, bossa nova, and modernist electronics. Family Vision Care started in the early '90s as the studio project of producer and multi-instrumentalist Thomas Berghaus, who released a self-titled album of acid jazz grooves in 1993. Following the album's release, Berghaus met and began a collaboration with American-born singer and lyricist Gary Harrison. Though the duo made some initial recordings in the mid-'90s that never saw the light of day, it wasn't until 2007 that Family Vision Care's second album, Careful, was finally released. Berghaus is also a popular club DJ in Cologne. ~ Stewart Mason, Rovi
