Fantompass is an emergent progrock band born in Concepción, Chile, originally founded as a trio on May 16, 2022, by keyboardist Elard Simón Koch Cabezas, drummer Pablo Patricio Escobar Venegas, and bassist Elard Martin Koch Silva. Adolfo 'Fito' Ibañez, on narration and MIDI effects, and Miguel Santiago Inostroza, on flute, joined the project shortly after, recording two early demos (2023) Awakening and Parsimonia III. The following year, singer Claudia Faúndez Solís joined the band, along with Eliseo Henríquez Espinoza on electric guitar. After the latter left the project in 2024, he was replaced by experienced guitarist and sound engineer Felipe Mardones Diaz. With the addition of Cristian 'Titan' Fuentes on saxophone and Millaray Faundez Aguilera on vocals, the band reached its current configuration of nine musicians, releasing new material and performing several local concerts in south region of Chile.
Fantompass's approach and style are elegant and innovative, halfway between alternative and classic progressive rock, reminiscent of 1970s bands like Genesis, Renaissance, ELP, and Gentle Giant, but also influenced by jazz fusion, Celtic music, and minimalism. They are one of the first bands to incorporate the new steel drums known as handpans, bringing an original and innovative sound to their musical compositions.
