Described by some as “something I’ve never heard before” and most as “something I’ve never heard at all”, Faraway Shapes are undoubtedly one of the bands currently on the Helsinki indie rock scene.
Originally founded in late 2022 as a blues rock trio, the lineup consisted of Miki Lindqvist on guitar, Cal Twomey on bass and vocals and Okke Mäkelä on drums. However this all changed after the group made a shocking discovery; playing bass and singing lead at the same time…
…is really hard.
In light of this revelation, the group decided in early 2023 to seek the expertise of an actual bassist in the form of Joona Jantunen. Not long after, Miksu Juslenius took over on drums after Okke realised he couldn’t show a guitar riff on a drum set. Finally in early 2024, after three names, four lineups, one EP and many, many beers, Faraway Shapes was born.
The band are largely influenced by the sounds of the 2000’s garage rock revival, as well the psychedelic experimentation of the late 60’s and 70’s. With frequent comparisons to Pink Floyd, Radiohead and Kings of Leon (kind of a weird mix, but ok) this group are just getting started. With two EP’s already released, the lads are currently rolling out their highly anticipated debut LP this year!
