Felipe Oliveira de Sousa was born and raised in Fortaleza, a big coastal city in the Northeast of Brazil. After living in Europe for several years, he has fixed roots in Germany. His relationship with music started early by taking flute and piano lessons. It soon expanded to the clarinet and the saxophone (first alto, then tenor and soprano). He studied saxophone and jazz improvisation for many years in Brazil. He also took piano lessons for improving skills in jazz harmony and composition.

Felipe has played and recorded with several musicians from Brazil and abroad in different formations and situations (including well-established jazz festivals in Brazil). His first album (“Musiconauta”) was recorded when he was only 16 years old and counted with the participation of well-reputed musicians in Brazil’s national scene. It rendered two local awards. He has started giving live performances even before this age.

After concluding a PhD in Law in Edinburgh (Scotland), he decided to pursue a career in music. He is now engaged in different musical projects, such as the Com Felipe Quartet, which is about to release its first album, Everyday. He is also concluding a Master in Jazz Saxophone at Conservatorium Maastricht (Netherlands).

Coming from a strong intercultural background, Felipe has a particular crave for making music that is at the same time personal and open to a variety of cultural, rhythmic and harmonic influences and styles.
