Filip Jers Quartet has developed a unique fusion of jazz and traditional folk music and applied it to a contemporary jazz ensemble with the harmonica playing lead. The results have attracted the attention of jazz festivals and jazz clubs at both national and international levels.
Having taken inspiration from Toots Thielemans for their critically acclaimed debut CD, Filip Jers Quartet is now moving towards the strong tradition of Nordic Jazz, following the path of Swedish jazz legend and pianist Jan Johansson among others. On stage, they capture audiences with both playfulness and virtuosity.
The Filip Jers Quartet was given the "Best Group" Award at the European Jazz Competition in the summer of 2014. The EBU (European Broadcasting Union) arranged the contest and the final shows were held at LantarenVenster in Rotterdam. The jury’s comment read: "The band offered sensitive communication, outstanding arrangements and an intriguing choice of repertoire." Half a year later they went into the studio and recorded Filip Jers Quartet Plays Swedish Folk. The album was in 2015 awarded "Best Album Folk" at the Swedish Manifest record awards.
