In 1999, aspiring Danish producers and DJs Tomas Barfod and Kasper Bjørke formed Filur, blending house music inspired by the Parisian and NYC scenes of the ’90s with infectious pop vocals. Their 2000 debut album, Exciting Comfort, featured the singles It’s Alright and Shame, which became club and radio hits across Europe and Japan, where they toured extensively.
Filur gained momentum with two more albums, including the 2002 single I Want You, cementing them as one of Denmark’s most exported electronic acts. Their final live performance with a band was at Roskilde Festival’s Arena Stage in 2003, after which they continued DJing across Europe. Along the way, they earned a P3 Guld Award for ‘Danish Pophit of the Year,’ two Danish Music Awards - including ‘Producer of the Year’ - and eight Danish DJ Awards.
By 2006, they shifted focus, with Barfod joining the trio WhoMadeWho and Bjørke launching his solo career - both have since released a string of successful albums and singles. Filur briefly resurfaced in 2010 with In Retrospect, a 10-year anniversary compilation featuring two new tracks (Rental Car and 20 Lashes), and again in 2011 with their final album, Faces. Though disbanded, Filur left a significant mark on early Scandinavian house music and propelled their individual careers forward.
