A writers' a person who writes a lot. People who sing are called singers. FireDean always wrote and sang, but didn't do either publicly till he was 27. That was the year he began speaking in tongues. At the time he'd been living in Louisiana and working on an oil rig in The Gulf of Mexico. After joining the local Pentecostal Church he was outed to the choir director and began singing gospel classics like "Gimme That Olde Time Religion" from the back pew . Forever the prodigal son, he eventually left the church however, choosing instead to front a rock band in Washington, DC. "Big Black Nun" rapidly gained a following, playing to packed houses before getting the attention of Warren Bruleigh (The Violent Femmes) and signing management, production, and publishing deals.

Six years and 13 imploding drummers later BBN disbanded, leaving FireDean with a choice: lose everything he loved, or learn to play guitar. He chose both. Multiple releases as a solo artist followed, along with tours of the US and England and a Pg 1 feature profile in The Washington Post . Today he lives in UpState, NY where he is introducing a cadre of botanically inspired songs that are sometimes backed by his band 'The Brooklyn Garden Club' . An accomplished landscape designer FireDean often defends the cultivars he's loved and dismisses the ones who didn't love him back.
