Prog rock, blue denim, long hair were all essential elements of life for five teenage boys in Hastings who formed a band in 1975, which they called Flight. They performed live once, managing to attract an audience of 500 fellow teenagers. They created one cassette of their music, then fizzled out and went their separate ways in the long hot summer of ‘76, just as punk rock was arriving.
Fast forward to 2025 and one of those former long-haired teenagers has reimagined history, in a world where prog rock still dominates the music scene and Flight76 are still at the forefront of the genre.
Ian, now in the USA, has been creating music ever since those heady days of the mid 70s and has recently released solo albums and singles under the moniker i-a-n. He also revived an older band from schooldays called MoltenGrit - harder and heavier early '70s rock. Now he has revisited that old Flight cassette and re-recorded one of the tracks, ‘Legend of a River.’ It includes some of Ian’s original guitar work and some original vocals from fellow band member Nigel Wade. The original elements have been reworked and the track treated to modern production values.
Legend becomes one of nine ‘continuation’ prog and neo-prog tracks on the album ‘CONTINUUM’ BY Flight76. ‘Legend of a River’ is the single from the album.
