flowersaremagic is a five-piece weaving math-rock energy with indie-pop hooks and lyrics that cut deep. The project began in 2020 as a collaboration between songwriter-drummer Mehul and bassist Kaustav, who were shaping songs on laptops between college and day jobs. By 2021 an album was written but stayed on the hard drive, waiting for the right voices and ideas to bring it to life.
Those voices arrived in 2025. Guitarist Sourya came in and flipped the early dreamy sketches into intricate, riff-driven textures and restless rhythms that now define the band’s sound. Vocalist Rahul gave the songs conviction, carrying their emotional weight. Parvez added synths, atmosphere and patience, surrounding the band’s chaos with calm and space. Together with Kaustav’s melodic bass lines and Mehul’s songwriting and drumming, the five now arrange as a unit - jamming, passing demos across borders, building each track piece by piece.
The result is energetic, intricate music you can move to, with lyrics that quietly shatter you. Their upcoming album, A Treatise on Modern Longing, written years earlier and reborn collectively, captures that duality. Its fourth chapter, Vanilla//Anxiety is out now, a glimpse of a band turning lost songs into something urgent, beautiful and alive.
This time, they’re here to stay.
