Forest Zero is the sound of a file transfer between two countries, generations, and styles of alternative music. It’s what happens when an indie rocker from Minneapolis teams up with a legendary Polish 90s Alt-Rock band.
This adventure has led them from conversations with castle caretakers to a film fest nominated music video.
Forest Zero was formed in 2019 on the foundations of the long-forgotten band, “Rainforest”. The core members played across post-soviet Europe in the 90s and helped to create the Slot Art Festival in Poland.
Tomasz Bednarek (guitar), Michał Szprynger (bass), Adam Zapał (drums) and Marzena Horyza (flute) decided to get together after a long hiatus to create something completely new that still kept their original alt-rock ethos. The only missing piece was finding a new singer and lyricist. A network of connections led them to American frontman, Sam Erickson.
The band began collaborating using a file-sharing site to send songs and ideas back and forth, then emerged from the pandemic with the album, F0 Identities Inc., releasing it one song at a time.
Like a well-mixed playlist, the songs browse through different musical flavors, from crunchy guitars, spicy horn sections, steel guitars to distorted dial-up tones.
The lyrics as well go from suicidal cowboys, F. Scott Fitzgerald quotes, Robin Williams’ last picture in Minnesota, to just good ol’ love songs.
But no matter how existential it gets - no worries, you can rock out to it all!
