Forteresse is an atmospheric black metal band from Québec, Canada. They were formed in 2006 with a goal in mind: the celebration of their roots and the cultural identity of the Québécois people. Canadians today face a large issue- the cultural melting pot. In an officially multicultural country, it is very common for people to lose sight of their ancestry and cultural identity, and Forteresse was formed in 2006, comprised of Moribond, Matrak, Fiel and Athros, to spread the message that this was wrong. They are a band with strong political views in favour of the Bloc Québécois, meaning they are Québec separationists and want Québec to separate from Canada in order to preserve its rich cultural background and history.
Forteresse often allow these political views to seep deep into their music, and most of their lyrical content can be found to contain such messages when translated from their original French- in order to further demonstrate their Québécois pride, all their lyrics are written in the language of the province.
