Joseph Dalton -better known by his stage name Fragile Youth- is an ambient artist and sound engineer hailing from Halifax, Nova Scotia. His specialties lie in creating dense, shifting soundscapes forged from the melding of acoustic and synthetic landscapes. Naturally these involve a variety of field recordings, modular synthesis and soft, intimate acoustic recordings.
Dalton originally began his musical journey in indie bands. Quickly his interests shifted to a more aggressive hardcore, punk and metal scene. He played with various bands around his home town never recording anything serious and it was at this point that he became more interested in the “behind the scenes” elements such as engineering. He would eventually attain a degree in sound engineering and throughout his time at school he fell in love with crafting ambient music. Finally with the vision, and the knowledge to properly portray it - Fragile Youth was born.
In 2022 Dalton started releasing music through his homegrown label Sleep Goblin Records for both himself, and other artists he masters and/or mixes for. Through his label he experiments with various release formats such as digital, cassette tape and even floppy disk.
