Frank Canino is a veteran bassist residing in LA and NYC. Although passionate about singing and songwriting, his career has been as a sideman in the music business.
His first work was with the Sal Mosca/Warne Marsh Quartet at the Village Vanguard in 1979. Leading to his own jazz quartet tours of Europe in the early 1980’s, he appeared at the Northsea Jazz Festival, Heineken Jazz Festival, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, et al.
In 1987 he joined guitarist Cornell Dupree’s band “Who It Is.” Along with Richard Tee, Lou Marini and Chris Parker he recorded that group’s Grammy nominated record “Coast To Coast.”
He has played with Ray Charles, Joe Cocker, Dr. John, Willy DeVille, Ronan Tynan, Ben E. King, Richie Havens, Oz Noy, David Fathead Newman, Hank Crawford, Tiny Grimes, Rick Springfield, Gladys Knight, Lou Rawls, Bo Diddley, Vanessa Williams, Melissa Manchester, Blues Brothers, Drifters, Phoebe Snow, Billy Squier, Melba Moore, Felix Cavaliere, Ronnie Spector, etc.
Also with great NYC sidemen such as Anton Fig, Andy Newmark, Rick Marotta, David Spinozza, Buddy Williams, Keith Carlock, Ronnie Cuber, Lew Soloff, Paul Shaffer, Bernard Purdie & legendary songwriters Allen Toussaint and Motown's Holland-Dozier-Holland.
And dozens of Broadway shows like Hair, Beautiful, Kinky Boots, Hairspray, Motown, Rent, Mamma Mia, Memphis, Color Purple, Shrek, The Who's Tommy and others. He held the bass chair at Smokey Joe’s Cafe and played on that show’s Grammy winning recording.
