Oxford comedy-rock pranksters FRANK FISH AND THE FINS were notorious in the 1980s for their high energy, over the top live performances. The band combined bizarre theatrical costumes with a mental fusion of blues/funk-panto-rock, fish-obsessed psychedelia.
Frank Fish, the gibbering, wig-wearing, Johnny Winter obsessed, mad professor frontman with 1001 surreal costume changes, bellows surreal, fish-fixated lyrics backed by his overworked, underpaid band of stooges 'THE FINS':
Mick ‘Stickle’ Clack: guitar, vocals
Jerry ‘Opah’ Soffe: bass, vocals
Dale ‘Whale’ Marshall: Drums
Simon ‘The Sarge’ Mills: Drums, vocals
Nick ‘Binky Ray Manta’ Moorbath: Keyboards, guitar, vocals.
Frank Fish & The Fins were an eccentric, in-yer-face collision of blues, funk, rock and chaos, chiefly inspired by Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention, but also by the highly-individualistic talents of Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band, and the madcap humour of The Marx Brothers.
