Frank Martin Gilligan was a founding member of Texas group Mason Dixon, who in the 1980’s and early 1990’s garnered 13 Billboard Country hits with independent labels and later with Capitol Records Nashville and performed with just about every major country act at the time all over the U.S. , with numerous appearances on the Nashville Network.
Mason Dixon disbanded in 1993 and for quite a while that was going to be the whole story.Fast forward to 2013 and the Songwriter Serenade, a competition for up and coming songwriters held in Moravia Tx. At the urging of some music friends, Frank entered the contest and placed first. Subsequent wins at the Kerrville New Folk Songwriter Competition in 2014 and the Wildflower Arts and Music Festival in 2015 established the fact that Frank was back in the Texas music scene. His song Silver Dollar was # 1 on the Roots Americana chart for four weeks in a row and his poignant song “I Remember Who She Is” touched so many people who are dealing with heartbreak of Alzheimers. It was a well received return to the music world.
The term “singer/songwriter” usually implies and emphasis on the songwriter part of the equation. In the case of Frank Martin Gilligan, the combination of singer and song is in perfect balance. He will tear your heart out with the song and the voice in equal measure. Come hear the man and his guitar and you’ll agree
