Growing up, Franklin Rossman always knew one thing—he was going to make his mark in hip-hop! As a kid, the Flatbush, Brooklyn native soaked up all of the culture and sounds around him. Jay Z, The Roots, and Beres Hammond helped to inspire his musical tastes and guide his aspirations.
Franklin’s first works were a series of mixtapes under the name <a href="spotify:artist:7D6jPuKtb3ufcvYnZPD3eE" data-name="The Incomparable Shakespeare">The Incomparable Shakespeare</a>, but with his latest, he returned to his roots and remerged using his birth name. When asked about the name change Franklin shares, “it’s freedom—there’s no persona and I can express my range as an artist”. Jason Sager)</a> where the lyricist effortlessly raps on house music inspired production. His latest, <a href="spotify:track:6JsBrNdrjKsYPzjxMHxCQs" data-name="Walk Away">Walk Away</a>, tells a story of love lost while reinterpreting a reggae classic. The track captures the authentic feeling of a basement reggae party in Brooklyn. Franklin prides himself on celebrating rap’s rich history while pushing its boundaries in new directions.
“Music is my life and I’m working to create the soundtrack to peoples’ experiences,” Franklin says.
