Friday Santana is an Australian singer and songwriter. A prominent and influential figure in R&B, he is noted for his raw, gritty, vulnerable and devilish lyrics followed by an angel-like voice. In his own words from a 2021 interview, “If sex and drugs were a style of music, that’s the category you would put me in.”
Initially, Friday built an identity by removing his identity. Throughout the early days of his career, he refused to appear on interviews and rarely revealed information about himself - allowing fans to focus on the art.
After dropping out of school at 14, Friday turned to his artistic side and started pursuing music, using his grandmother’s shed to create “Evil Girls” which would later become his debut single. Shortly after, Friday featured the rapper, Ski Mask The Slump God on the late 2019 track “Uh Uh.”
In July 2022, Friday released his first project, a solo 16 song R&B mixtape titled “Philophobia.” The mixtape is a self-described “horror movie in a musical aspect.” Quickly gaining over 1 million streams within the first week, “Philophobia” was a breakthrough moment in the dark R&B space, allowing him to follow up with his 2023 single “Trouble.” A much more polished and refined release, the singer taps into his old ways - harmonising on a haunting beat, singing about a reckless persona, drugs, sex and a carefree life.
