Friends of Friends are an Australian band making genre-defying music that thrives on contrast – raw and atmospheric, beautiful and chaotic, emotionally unfiltered and sonically bold. Fusing jarring guitars, cinematic textures, and visceral storytelling, the band has built a cult following through their fearless DIY ethic and refusal to sit still creatively. Described by triple j as “great, lethal modern rock,” Friends of Friends recently landed in Kerrang! Magazine, appearing alongside artists like Turnstile and Neck Deep – a testament to their momentum both at home and internationally. Every element of their output is made in-house, from recording and mixing to video direction, artwork, and strategy, making them one of the most fully self-contained creative units in the scene.
Shaped by internet culture, global subgenres, and a shared love of emotional intensity, the band’s sound reflects the future of Australian music – diverse, globally influenced, and impossible to box in. At the project’s core is Barnaby Baker, a multi-instrumentalist born to British parents, whose love of britpop and distortion shapes the band’s sound and aesthetic. He’s joined by Frank Christian, a fellow multi-instrumentalist whose Filipino heritage brings a distinct global edge to the band’s voice. Morgan Blake drives the rhythm section with raw intensity and technical precision, while Jess Cameron, a seasoned performer with major Australian tour experience, delivers a powerful polished low end.
