With a name foraged appropriately beside the desert highways of Utah during a family camping trip in 2014, Front Bumper is the band that covers it all. Back then, the band’s iconic name was first exclaimed by Front Bumper’s co-founder and matriarch, Corrie, when patriarch Everett tickled the underside of the car on a concrete bumper block in a parking lot: “Watch the front bumper!” Corrie cried. Everett’s nonchalant response would change the outset of the family members’ lives forever: “That would be a great band name.”
Shortly after the inception of the band name, the family group of ten worked to fabricate a list of conspicuous song titles—like “How I Broke My Weenie”—all inspired by campsite dilemmas, kooky conspiracies, and family legends. But the double-entendred songs would not be fully realized until Everett was diagnosed with stage four Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. In response to Everett’s diagnosis, Front Bumper organized a benefit concert where they would play a spasmodic mix of originals and covers—everything from the soulful twang of Tim McGraw to the raucous warmth of Silversun Pickups.
Now, Front Bumper is comprised of a whopping fourteen family members. On Front Bumper’s first release (“16 Buns”), Everett’s on piano, Kevin drums, Merek guitar, sax, and lead vocals, and Mason bass and background vocals.
Whether you’re here for the wide array of covers or the cheeky originals, like one of a well-worn car, Front Bumper is guaranteed to rattle in your mind for miles.
