Arriving on the Belfast scene like a bucket of pink paint into white, Dan O’Rawe, aka F.R.U.I.T.Y. brings a chameleonic, singular blend of woozy, lo-fi electronica, hip-hop and experimental pop, underpinned by the ingrained localised perspective of a queer person in Northern Ireland.
Dan does not shy away from his queer identity or natural accent. The alias ‘F.R.U.I.T.Y.’ is a tongue-in-cheek reclamation of the derogatory term often used to insult the queer community.
Dan has contributed to two fantastic compilation albums, both raising money for charity.
First, their track 'Pigeon Heart' for Bangers & Mash Ups curated for 'Women's Aid'. Secondly their cover of Bela Lugosi's Dead by Bauhaus for a Scottish Label called Heavenly Creatures in aid of 'No More Dysphoria'.
"If this is lo-fi hip hop then bring it on" - Micky Bradley (BBC Radio Ulster/The Undertones)
As twinkling hooks flow with a cinematic splendour, it’s a glistening, uplifting slice of alt-electro-pop; a perfect soundtrack to woozy summer evenings" - Mari (Get In Her Ears)
“Electroclash, spoken word and some audacity” - Stu Bailie (Dig With It)
