Fulya Uçanok is an electroacoustic musician and pianist; composing, performing and improvising.
Born in Turkey, she studied Eurogenetic classical music under piano at Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory, and completed her master’s degree in Istanbul Technical University, Advanced Studies in Music. She went to Indonesia/Bali with the Darmasiswa grant for one and a half years, and studied the performance practice and socio-sonic connections of Balinese “Gender Wayang” tradition. Upon her return, she began and completed her doctoral studies at İTÜ MİAM, Sonic Arts Department, focusing on electroacoustic music composition and performance.
Along with Serkan Sevilgen she initiated Soundinit, an initiative aiming to bring together people in and outside the academia, as well as people from different backgrounds who like thinking with sound. They organize soundwalks and other sound-based events where various listening practices and discussions take place. She has a piano, cello and electronics-duo project with Zeynep Ayşe Hatipoğlu called iKKi Duo. She is a member of klank.ist ensemble.
Her current interests include, response-able sounding practices with humans, more-than-humans and materials; practices of material agency with instruments; accessibility without popularization; spaces of heterogeneous multivalences within the medium of electroacoustic music aesthetics, composition and performance practices.
