GAAYATRI is a Hindustani Singer, Composer/Music Director, and Musical Artist. She hails from the Rampur Maihar-Senia Gharana, having trained under the late Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, beginning her vocal training from him in the traditional Guru-Shishya parampara at the age of 4 until the age of 18. Her repertoire consists of Dhrupad, Khyaal, Tarana, Light Classical, and Regional Folk pieces rendered in the unique Maihar vocal style. Her classical technique consists of Dhrupad, Khyaal, and Beenkar elements, as the lineage takes root from Rampur’s musicians of all three styles. She is one of the very few living practitioners of this lineage of vocal music, having been extensively trained in this by her Guru. She had the fortunate of singing for Smt. Annapoorna Devi, and receiving her blessings to present her lineage’s vocal music in its purest form. She got her start in commercial music working with AR Rahman. Her originals blend Indian music into media music and commercial songs.
