Gaba

Gaba is a musician from Durban, South Africa. A child of the 90s, born in Mayville - eMkhumbane (the Sophiatown of Durban). The soul of KwaZulu-Natal, where cultures met and music dominated in the 60s and 70s till the early 90s. The home to greats like the Nokwe family and Madala Kunene. It is therefore no coincidence that Gaba chose the path he chose and Hiphop became an outlet for what he has seen and heard growing up eMkhumbane.

There is honesty and truth in the manner that Gaba relays the message. His songs mirror the times in which they are conceived. They are hope to the kids growing up in the townships. They are therapy to the women and men searching for a way in today’s society. They scream BLACK LIVES MATTER to an unjust system setup to oppress black bodies. They are soul food to his people. Nothing is sacred, his pen travels to all corners of his thoughts as he paints vivid pictures of our lives.

Gaba is the winner of the 2015 The Music Imbizo Showcase competition. Finalist on the MyConnect 2016, where tens of musicians across KwaZulu-Natal went through a boot camp in preparation for their entry into the music industry. Artists were shortlisted and Gaba made the top 10.
