Gaelynn Lea got her big break when she won NPR Music's Tiny Desk Contest in 2016, and she has been captivating audiences around the world ever since with her haunting songs and fiddle tunes. She has collaborated with Michael Stipe, The Decemberists and Pigface.
In 2022, Gaelynn Lea composed the original score for Macbeth on Broadway, starring Daniel Craig and Ruth Negga. She is finally releasing her creation this Spring. "Music from Macbeth" will be out on 9 May 2025, followed by a 10-city UK album release tour.
"Music from Macbeth" is a seven-track concept album. It is mostly instrumental—one long track per act—but it's book-ended by two vocal songs. The music is laid out as Gaelynn Lea originally intended it, before the realities of live theater required significant edits.
Her hope is this album takes you on an epic audio journey that mirrors the winding and tragic path of Macbeth himself.
Most recently, Gaelynn Lea co-wrote, acted and sang in a new musical fable for the stage called "Invisible Fences" with disabled storyteller Kevin Kling. Their fantastical, music-filled production touches on disability, identity, and the stories we tell ourselves. It has enjoyed three sold-out runs since it premiered in July 2023.
Gaelynn Lea is finishing up a book about touring and disability advocacy that will be published by Algonquin Press in early 2026. It will be a love-letter to every body— a warm, funny and deeply-felt memoir about the messy creativity of an artist's life.
