Garagee (gar/adji(y)) is the alter-ego, musical medium and outlet of Melbourne based multi-instrumentalist, Rob McPherson, presenting concise emotive instrumentals like small vignettes to films you haven’t seen yet. The project utilises a combination of ambient electronics and post-rock stylings with field recordings, guitars, synths & acoustic world instruments. Always present is the heavy use of world instrumentation, an important M.O. of Garagee’s makeup, to highlight the expanded pallette of sounds that our world uses to express itself in a pursuit that’s above all, human.
Established with it’s first release in 2009 (‘Gar/ADJ/i(y)'), Garagee was picked up by indie electronica/ psy label, Tempest Recordings. This formed a fruitful relationship with many colaborations, EPs and remixes culminating in the remix collection ‘Sojourn’ (2016). In more recent years, Garagee released a number of EPs independently, ‘Volahytta’ (2019), companion EPs 'Dreaming Of Sleep' (2020) & 'Always Had The Sky' (2021), and 'Cut And Run' (2021), along with a collaboration with Hesius Dome entitled 'Performance' (2023), released on the Psy-Harmonics label.
Most recently, Garagee released the 3rd full length, self-titled 'Garagee III' album, featuring collaborations with guest vocalists for the first time. Lead singles 'Blood', featuring The Church's Steve Kilbey, and 'Firewall' featuring Jane McArthur received critical praise for the respective moody and emotive journeys contained within.
