Gary was born in Evansville, Indiana quite some time ago. A fan of country and rockabilly music since the age of five, he got his first guitar at the age of ten and learned to play by the age of fourteen. Originally taken with sounds of Hank Williams, Ernest Tubb, and Faron Young, he was captured by the mid-fifties rockabilly music of Johnny Cash, Elvis, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis, Ricky Nelson, Carl Perkins and others. He became a fan of the Beatles largely because of their incorporation of rockabilly rhythms and hillbilly harmonies. Other influences on Gary's career include the great country voices of Mel Street, George Jones, Merle Haggard, and Buck Owens. Because much of Gary's song writing centers on the themes of liberty and free choice, he has great respect for artists of the past who found their way to success not because of the industry standard, but in spite of it; hence Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams Jr., and Willie Nelson are probably his strongest influences. These guys were truly rebels who chose freedom over success, and ended up achieving both.
