G&D

An alliance that dates back to the mid-2000s, <a href="spotify:artist:2RdnkH5txHb9c4vGwq0I31">Georgia Anne Muldrow</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:08xLtQbGdIZfVfk6QTgYIW">Dudley Perkins</a> have used the alias G&D as another outlet for their spaced-out, funk-rooted mix of hip-hop and R&B. Within their abundant solo and collaborative discographies, they've released three proper albums as G&D, including the communal and oppositional Black Love & War (2019).

<a href="spotify:artist:2RdnkH5txHb9c4vGwq0I31">Muldrow</a> (aka Ms. One, Pattie Blingh, and <a href="spotify:artist:2k4rFvTvrQosTxUTqHN0ib">Jyoti</a>) and <a href="spotify:artist:08xLtQbGdIZfVfk6QTgYIW">Perkins</a> (aka <a href="spotify:artist:0IWhrIU65vvKiggTlWKDZw">Declaime</a>) were first heard together on a batch of 2006 LPs: <a href="spotify:artist:08xLtQbGdIZfVfk6QTgYIW">Perkins</a>' Expressions, <a href="spotify:artist:5PA6iCCOkq14PpMWWlhJ5T">Oh No</a>'s Exodus into Unheard Rhythms, and <a href="spotify:artist:68P6JiHWJsv5VqfLPchS1n">Eric Lau</a>'s Presents Dudley and Friends. In 2007, they were co-billed under their full names on Beautiful Mindz, presented by <a href="spotify:artist:4mPEh7BrKt7cC3Oq9SjPat">2tall</a>, and released the first true G&D album, The Message Uni Versa, on <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Look+Records%22">Look Records</a>. They worked together on numerous sessions, officially launched their <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22SomeOthaShip%22">SomeOthaShip</a> label in 2009, and the following year released an album of the same name, though it was through <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Mello+Music+Group%22">Mello Music Group</a> and credited to <a href="spotify:artist:2RdnkH5txHb9c4vGwq0I31">Georgia A. Muldrow</a> & <a href="spotify:artist:0IWhrIU65vvKiggTlWKDZw">Declaime</a>. The second G&D album, The Lighthouse, followed on <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22SomeOthaShip%22">SomeOthaShip</a> in 2013.

After another pile of solo releases, guest appearances, and productions, <a href="spotify:artist:2RdnkH5txHb9c4vGwq0I31">Muldrow</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:08xLtQbGdIZfVfk6QTgYIW">Perkins</a> returned as G&D in 2019 with Black Love & War, on which they got a little help from producers <a href="spotify:artist:5PA6iCCOkq14PpMWWlhJ5T">Oh No</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:5J0hy1k4Ghvo1iIZ8P7cd4">Mike & Keys</a> and featured the likes of <a href="spotify:artist:0id62QV2SZZfvBn9xpmuCl">Aloe Blacc</a> and LaToiya Williams. ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi
