b. 9 November 1951, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. After training in a conservatory in the early 70s, Brown came to Europe in 1972 playing drums for John Lee. He stayed and recorded with Chris Hinze, Joachim Kuhn, Toots Thielemans and Charlie Mariano. On his return to New York in 1976 he played with Stanley Clarke before joining Chick Corea’s Return To Forever. He is a deft musician, able to provide a firm rhythmic bass for any band. In 1979 he returned to Europe to play the Montreux International Jazz Festival with Didier Lockwood. He remained in France and Germany for a while, but by 1984 was back in New York recording with Arthur Blythe.
