GIGI is a Vancouver-based indie pop project whose Ellie Greenwich-worthy pop hooks, tender girl-boy harmonies, and retro production values welcome comparisons to acts like the School and Saturday Looks Good to Me. Although the group features a large cast of contributors (over a dozen musicians contributed to the project's first album, including the likes of Rose Melberg and Karl Blau), GIGI is at its core a collaboration between Nick Krgovich (best-known for his work with P:ano and No Kids) and producer Colin Stewart. In 2005, having gotten his hands on a couple of old-school plate reverbs, Stewart approached Krgovich with the idea to make some Phil Spector-style recordings. A series of live-off-the-floor recording sessions ensued, culminating three years later in the tracks that would become GIGI's debut full-length, Maintenant. The album was released on Tomlab in January 2010. ~ TiVo Staff, Rovi
