Ginamaya is a Chicagoland native who grew up listening to the radio stations of her father’s 1968 Catalina convertible blaring out psychedelic rock, soul, blues, r & b, and diva pop.
After a creative hiatus through late adolescence, Ginamaya rediscovered her joy in creating music, getting permission from her landlord to hang a mattress in the building's basement for a simple home recording set-up. She began producing her own music, stacking and arranging samples and multiple layers of vocal harmonies. She emulates legends such as Brittany Howard, Florence Welch, Tame Impala, Santigold and “anyone who can command a stage with their pure presence.”
Her previous works include self-released EPs “Cloud Shoes,” “Body West,” "Miss Moon," and "Microdose Radio." In 2021 she collaborated with Cafe Disko to release a single electronic dance track titled “Houston” which garnered over 100,000 streams and counting. Her newest and longest song compilation "Glimmers" released in 2025 oscillates between the joys and frustrations of modern familial life and the embodiment that can anchor it all.
Themes of love, longing, folly, and wonder emerge, but ultimately, she says, “It's sort of a spiritual and intellectual exercise against nihilism. Life is just one damn thing after another. Can I accept that? Expect it? Dance with it? Laugh at it? Look into the abyss and then decide to put on a little song and dance show? A lot of days, the answer is yes.”
