Girlhood is the musical world of Christian Pinchbeck: A soundtrack seemingly collaged from adored records of yesteryear, overflowing with a profound sense of joy and electric craftsmanship. The London based project purses rawness over perfection, with most instrument and vocals written to tape with a single take. Since the band started, it has seen a plethora of collaborators take centre stage, moulding the sound into something full of human spirit and extroverted, genre-bending production and songwriting. Inspired by the ‘cut and paste’ work of The Avalanches, Afro-beat jazz-fusions of Pharaoh Saunders, pop-centric grounding of Labi Siffre, sample-bending skills of Moby and the feeling of hunting through old records to find that perfect, soul-warming sonic adventure.
