Giuliano Modarelli is a guitarist, composer, producer and co-founder of the award-winning collective Kefaya. An artist whose music transcends genres and borders, Giuliano’s work is rooted in internationalism, cultural exchange, and collaboration. Based in London, his sound reflects the city’s rich diversity, blending new jazz, electronic music, dub, and Indian classical traditions with a contemporary aesthetic. A student of Hindustani classical music for over 20 years, he trained with masters Pandit Buddhadev Dasgupta and Pandit Prattyush Banerjee, shaping his approach to composition and improvisation.
With Kefaya, Giuliano explores themes of immigration, gender equality, and resistance to patriarchal and capitalist ideologies, exemplified in critically acclaimed albums such as Radio International and Songs of Our Mothers with Elaha Soroor. His collaborations span continents and disciplines, working with artists like Shankar Mahadevan, Nitin Sawhney, Talvin Singh, Sarathy Korwar, and choreographers like Gregory Maqoma and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui.
