He studied classical guitar in Bologna, graduated in double bass in Reggio Emilia and cello in Ferrara. In 1990 he founded the string quartet "Quartetto Grandi" with which, as a cellist and composer, he participated in various festivals, concert series, drama theater and recorded several CDs (6). He has actively collaborated with other musicians and composers including Tony Coe (UK), Lindsay Cooper (UK), John Oswald (Canada), Lamin Kontè (Senegal), Kenny Wheeler (UK), Jamal Ouassini (Morocco).

Grandi is the author of numerous incidental music for the Theatre (Parma Teatri, Emilia - Romagna Teatri, Teatro Settimo in Turin, etc.), commissioned by various Directors including: C. Pezzoli, R. Tarasco, S. Panini, G. Bernardi, Therry Salmon, obtaining various awards and mentions of merit from critics.

For “Angelica”, International Music Festival, he wrote the piece “Danae” which was performed for the first time by the Symphony Orchestra of the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, conducted by M. Stephen Drury (Boston) and later in the USA (Boston Chamber Orchestra).
