A mainstay in the Minneapolis rock scene of the late '60s and early '70s, Barry Thomas Goldberg made his solo debut in 1974 under the name Goldberg. Abandoning the power pop of his previous group, the Batch, Goldberg collaborated with experimental guitarist Michael Yonkers on a Spartan set of psych-folk songs that they recorded in mono to an Ampex tape machine in just two days. The resulting album, Misty Flats, was funded by Yonkers, who used his payout from a work injury to release several of his own albums as well as Goldberg's debut. A lonesome and thoughtfully meandering album, Misty Flats was self-released and received a limited pressing of only 500 copies. Failing to make a commercial impact, Goldberg's debut faded into obscurity until Seattle-based reissue label Light in the Attic reissued it in 2015. Following its initial 1974 release, Goldberg formed a new rock group, Barry T. Goldberg & the Hwy 52 Band, who became regionally successful around the Twin Cities. He later resumed his solo career, releasing a string of albums under his full name, Barry Thomas Goldberg. ~ Timothy Monger, Rovi
