Dutch band Gompie was created by Dureco Records’ head Rob Peters and veteran guitarist/singer Peter Koelewijn and a team of session musicians in 1995. Their debut release, ‘Who The X Is Alice?’, was an offbeat (and lewd) response to Smokie’s enduring 1976 single, ‘Living Next Door To Alice’. Peters struck a distribution deal for the Benelux nations with Artur Prait of RPC Entertainment, resulting in the single staying at number 1 in the Netherlands charts for four weeks. A full-length album followed.
