After a 12 year hiatus from recording, Belfast native David McConnell returned to the studio in 2025 with no grand plans - just one song that needed to exist. What began as a modest single session with producer Michael Bell at Start Together Studios quickly expanded into a full-length album.
"The Mountains Sure Don't Give A Damn About The Sea" marks both an ending and a beginning. The album moves through melody and melancholy, charting the geography of loss and detachment that defines our current moment. The songwriting on the record is raw and personal, tackling themes of loneliness and loss, hope and hopelessness.
Lead single “Paper Tiger” weaves delicate strings and ambient guitar noise together with lyrics describing a craving for real human connection, instead of lost signals like light pollution filtering starlight in the busy city skyline.
McConnell’s voice cracks with emotion before his starry-eyed croon soars over the songs, carrying the burden of being human and highlighting the way we drift in and out of each other, the way memory distorts and echoes with time.
The musical bloodline of Good Swim runs through the confessional folk of Bright Eyes and Damien Rice, through to the Dust Bowl Americana of Wilco and the soft melodies of Iron and Wine.
With "The Mountains Sure Don't Give A Damn About The Sea," Good Swim establishes itself with a set of songs to draw hope in - an uncensored snapshot of perseverance and courage.
