Goose Down

Off-kilter house producer Goose Down (Micah Smith) returns with a refreshing nine-song album 'Material Needs.' This follows his well-received 2023 EP 'Neatfreaks' which garnered support from BBC radio, NTS and niche corners of the global DJ community.

'Material Needs' revives bits of the lowlit soul-psychedelia from 'Neatfreaks' and the jazzy, vapory palette from his 'Mind Rinse' release. It contains a variety of expansive, groove-oriented jams influenced by old-school house and RnB.

The album kicks off with the upbeat 'Groundwork' followed by the smooth, yet wonky 'Love Is', a french touch-inspired sample chop gliding above a dusty rhythm. The mood thickens with the understated spell cast by 'Innergy' and 'See it All' both providing a steady backbeat under meditative vocal grooves. A more urgent tone is struck with the temperamental 'Think Tank' and the album ends with the warm, organic nourishment of 'Material Needs'

The surreal sounds will please dance floors and headphone-dwellers alike. Micah Smith showcases his usual affinity for detail and ear candy while keeping grooves simple and effective.
