When I was about 8 years old, I used to visit my grandpa in a nursing home. The nurses noticed me playing piano for Gordon in his room and told me I could go and play on the bigger piano in the common dining area. During my little performances, the other elderly residents would ask the staff who I was, they usually referred to me as “Gordon's Grandson".
Gordon had a brain tumour. He was half paralysed and lost a lot of his ability to communicate. We connected through music and I like to think it helped him with whatever pain he had. He showed me how a song can transport you back in time. How it can let you feel your past in a way that your memories can’t.
I hope one day, my songs will be able to remind you of a time in your life and let you relive that time a little clearer.
